tribute to TNA & double j

Double J being none other than Jeff Jarrett. Love him or hate him he has been a force in the wrestling business for his whole career. With the fall of Extreme Champion Wrestling and WWE purchasing WCW, Jarrett started Total Nonstop Action Wrestling in 2002. TNA operated under the NWA governing until about 2004.

From the beginning, I liked the fact that TNA was different from the rest. Different in that the promotion held weekly pay per views instead of monthly ones that were the norm. TNA did not establish a television deal until 2004. Later they gained a regular deal with Spike TV as TNA Impact began. Up until that point, their primary driving force was the weekly pay per views via the internet.

Who could forget the hexagon ring? A six sided ring? Man that was something else. Today, they have went back to the normal four sided ring. The X Division has some of the most talented wrestlers I have ever seen. These guys are true athletes. TNA featured wrestlers that were not considered main event guys in WWF or WCW. Jeff Jarrett and company treated everyone equally from the start.

ecw heavyweight replica belt

I purchased this ECW replica belt about 4 months ago. I’ve always wanted a real wrestling belt similar to what the actual wrestlers have. Since ECW was my favorite organization, why not the ECW Heavyweight Championship belt? Lucky for me, it was on sale for $249.99. The regular price was $299.99. Sure it was still expensive but I am the nostalgic type.. The title came with a nice protective carrying sleeve as well. Overall, I do not have any complaints. Everything on it is perfect actually. I am proudly displaying this belt on the shelf!

good news for mayweather

Floyd Mayweather Jr’s jail starting date has been pushed back to June 1st. Mayweather was originally supposed to serve a 90 day term starting January 6th. Due to this, Floyd now can fight in May, on Cinco De Mayo of course.

An opponent has not been named but Saul Alvarez is a potential one. Alvarez has an interest in fighting Mayweather and has been verbal about it. For Floyd, this is a win win situation. Although a great up and coming boxer, Alvarez does not pose much a threat to Floyd Jr.

If Floyd beats Canelo, he remains undefeated and will feel better about serving 3 months. The boxing community would love to see Mayweather take on Manny Pacquiao on May 5th. The two more than likely will not fight this May.

Here is a video to lighten the mood.

the humble one- D. Rose

Derrick Rose is something else. Something else in that he stands out from the crowd. At age 22 he become the youngest player to capture the NBA Rookie of the Year award. In his second season he was selected to the Eastern Conference All Star team as a reserve. Rose was the second Bulls player to play in an All Star game next to Michael Jordan.

The following year, 2011, Rose was elected as the Eastern Conference All Stars starting point guard. As if all this wasn’t enough, Rose become the leagues youngest Most Valuable Player in history. Again, sharing the spotlight with Michael Jordan. The only two in Chicago Bulls history to win the award.

The 2012 season just started and so far so good. The Bulls are 3-1 and had a very impressive 1 point victory over the Lakers on Christmas Day! Putting all his success aside, Derrick Rose is such a humble guy. He turned 23 in October and the sky is the limit.

boxing fights for 2012

2012 is nearly here and the following are some match ups I would love to see.

Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao- A very obvious choice. This is the fight everyone wants to see but probably will not happen soon.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr vs Saul Alvarez- Both have come off victories and are rising stars. This fight only makes sense!

Andre Ward vs Sergio Martinez- Would be a great test for each guy. Ward has come off the win of the Super Six Tournament and Martinez is the Ring Middleweight Champion.

Timothy Bradley vs Amir Khan- Khan lost a split decision to Lamont Peterson. Bradley defeated Joel Casamayor and is still undefeated. However, I believe Amir Khan will have a rematch against Lamont Peterson first.

Dream Fight in 2012

Oscar De La Hoya vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr- Oscar defeated Julio’s father twice. Chavez Jr has expressed his interest in avenging his father’s losses. Oscar has retired from boxing since his loss to Pacquiao. I believe this fight would draw a huge crowd!

christmas movies

Another reason I love Christmas time are the movies. You cannot flip through the channels without seeing a Xmas flick. I have three that I must watch around this time. The first is Home Alone. Love this one. So many funny parts that you cannot help but quote them all the time. My favorite part is when Kevin pranks the Little Nero’s pizza guy. Poor guy, Kevin didn’t mean it though, just wanted a laugh.

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is just a great as the first. This time Kevin is alone in the big apple. Fortunately he has his dad’s credit card and lives it up in a fancy hotel room. Favorite part is when the head gentleman snoops in on “Kevin’s father” in the shower. Instead it is a voice recording of Kevin’s uncle and a blow up clown doll, too funny.

Who could forget A Christmas Story. This is the head honcho of Christmas movies. I mean it is on 24 hours for the special day. The protagonist Ralphie is a good kid with problems that kids his age has; little brothers, bullies, friends, school, etc. Favorite part is when Ralphie finally puts the bully Scut Farkus in his place by pummeling him.

an nba xmas

Some many games on such a great day. First game was the New York Knicks defeating the Boston Celtics. I expected the Celtics to win but I am glad the Knicks took the evenly match game, 106-104. Carmelo Anthony played very well in the season opener. Paul Pierce unfortunately could not play, he was sporting a nice suit but also a sore right heel. Baron Davis also was looking sharp but had a problem with his injured back.

Next up were the Miami Heat taking on the Dallas Mavericks. This game was getting ugly for the Mavericks in the beginning. Things did get better towards the end, but the heat were too much. Dallas is a veteran team with Jason Kidd, Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Terry and now Lamar Odom. However, it was the first game of the season, so it is no big deal. Miami wins 105-94.

Chicago versus Los Angeles. The game I have been waiting for! What a back and forth game this was. The Lakers lost Odom but Kobe stayed strong and carried the Lakers. Bryant was dealing with an injured wrist and still made Chicago defenders look silly. Anyway, Luol Deng was playing great on both ends. He had a few steals, a block on Kobe and a nice three point play near the end. Derrick Rose put in a floater in the fourth quarter to give the Bulls the lead. Chicago wins 88-87.

Merry Christmas!

nba back in swing

It has been a good while but the NBA has resumed with a December 25th start date. Perfect time to start on Christmas, in my opinion. The games lined are the Boston Celtics vs New York Knicks, Miami Heat vs Dallas Mavericks, Chicago Bulls vs Los Angeles Lakers, Orlando Magic vs Oklahoma City Thunder and the Los Angeles Clippers vs Golden State Warriors. I think this lineup more than makes up for the few months we have missed out on.

There has been some interesting trades that have taken place. Lamar Odom has been traded to the Dallas Mavericks. A big move. Odom has a lot of experience which adds to the already experienced Mavericks team. Chris Paul has been traded from the New Orleans Hornets to the Los Angeles Clippers. Paul was originally looking to go to the New York Knicks. I believe going to the Clippers is a better move. Him and Blake Griffin will have some fun together.

After nearly 2 months of sorting everything out, we finally have an NBA season! If the whole season were to be canceled, what a bummer that would have been. Some veterans would of probably called it a career. I am looking forward to Christmas!

cotto margarito II

The anticipated rematch is tonight. Their first fight was quiet some time ago, July 26 2008. In their first, Miguel Cotto looked good early on by landing clean shots on Antonio Margarito. Margarito hung in with Cotto and turned the tide later on. Now the subject comes about did Margarito have plaster in his hand wraps? This debate has been going on for years.

My opinion is that he did have something illegal in his hand wraps that night. Regardless, I still think Antonio Margarito is a great fighter. He shows no mercy and has the heart of a champion in the ring. Although tonight I think it will be Miguel Cotto’s night. I think he will do enough damage to Margarito for the referee to call a TKO. Manny Pacquiao did damage to Margarito’s face in their fight, and Cotto wants to do the same.

If Antonio Margarito is the victor tonight, he will silence the critics for the time being. Also, maybe he will wish to avenge a loss to Paul Williams, challenge Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, or give Saul Alvarez a big fight. If Miguel Cotto is the victor tonight, maybe he will want a rematch against Manny Pacquiao. I like both fighters, I did wish them good luck tonight!

forever married…with children

This show is timeless. I have been watching this show since I was a young kid. As a young kid, I didn’t get all the adult humor right away but I caught on. Thank you  TV networks for syndication and dvd releases. It was nearly impossible to watch an episode and not laugh. Al Bundy was a very miserable man who was indeed married with children. Now if he had a good career as well as a compliant family, maybe he would not be such a mope. Unfortunately, Al sells women’s shoes..

Lets take a look at who he is living with. His wife Peggy. A day in the life of Peg is sitting on the couch watching Oprah while snacking on some bon bons. Peggy adds little to the family besides adding up their bills. Next is Kelly. Kelly is much like Peggy but does not sit on the couch all day long. Kelly is not the smartest in the world but at least she encourages Al from time to time. Bud is the most level headed of the family. He is actually quite bright. Still being a young man throughout the series, his main focus is finding women who will take interest in him. Neighbors Marcy and Steve/Marcy and Jefferson were just about considered family due to their appearance in almost every episode.

Spanning 10 years, it is difficult to pick a favorite episode. Some that stick out were the baseball strike episode titled “A Man for No Seasons”. This was in season 9. Another was when Fox aired a show that mocked the Bundy’s. This episode was called “No Pot to Pease In”, also from season 9. “You Better Shop Around” part 1 & 2 from season 5 and plenty more. In my opinion, Married With Children is better than any show on television today. The show ran 11 seasons from April 5 1987 to June 9 1997.
